Message: i have a 97 5.2 5-speed that recently had the throwout bearing replaced about 1 month ago. i am starting to hear a grinding when i release the clutch. it only does this when it is cool out. but when i drive it to work, i can get back in it the hour and it doesnt do it anymore, however it does it the next morning. could i have a bad throwout bearing and if so could i do the job myself?

Message: Did you put it in or some shop. It is common practice for shops that are crooked will pop the cover off the bearing and re grease it. We did this a lot BUT never to a bearing needing replacement and NEVER charged for it . It was a curticy thing

Message: unless it sounds the same as before the new one went in, something was done. might also be the noise was not the throw out bearing to start with. if you don;t know, you need an opinion from someone that can hear it.

Message: Could be the pilot bearing. Was it checked while the trans was out?

Message: Unless it disintegrated I'm wondering why the throw out bearing was changed. If the clutch pedal was stiff it was your clutch plate . If the pedal went soft your clutch disk was totally shot.
