Subject: Royal Purple Max ATF usable with 46RE?? IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know if Royal Purple's Max ATF tranny fluid is usable with the 46RE transmission? I have a buddy of mine with a R/T that wants to change over to a synthetic transmission fluid. Thanks.

Message: I can tell you that Redline C+ ATF works great. It is 100% synthetic and it is designed just for chrysler transmissions. It is the only synthetic ATF that I am aware of that is designed just for Chrysler transmissions. The only real difference between ATF+3 and ATF+4 is that ATF+4 has the anti foam additive already in it and they have used hydro cracked oil to decrease boil off and oxidation. The Redline C+ ATF is basicly a fully synthetic version of CHRYSLERS atf+3. So you are getting an incrediable product for a $1.00 less then the dealership wants foe ATF+4. I have had itin my truck for 9 months and it is a great product.

Message: dealership told me NO synthetics in the tranny. doubt they were trying to sell me their fluid, so I dont see why they would lie. just what I heard, not what I think.

Message: Get your dealer to put that in writeing!!! I had my truck in for some waranty work and while they had it up on the lift the checked everything else out. The service manager made a point of saying to me" That he was suprised that my transmission was not leaking." He told me "all of the other Daks and Jeeps with the 45RFE trans normaly leak fluid out the tail shaft." I just smiled and said realy. I also have not had any of the problems that others have had with their trans. Mine shifts like it did the day I bought it. It also shifts better in extreme cold with the C+ ATF in it.I changed booth filters and fluid at 9000 miles. I plan on doing this every 12000 miles. I have to deal with Area Parts Managers APM's and Servie Writers Daily. You would not belive the stuff some dealership mechanics try to pass off on customers. Their are alot of great ASE certified mechanics out their and their are also alot of hacks. Dealerships have a high turnover rate for mechanics. You realy have to scruitinize them closely. I am sure CW could tell you some scary story about mechanics that have come and gone from his dealership.

Message: If I had an auto I would be using the AMSOIL ATF or the
AMSOIL supershift fluid (synthetic type F).
I know of some guys running this in their AUTO DAKS
that are equiped with shift kits and aftermarket torque
converters and they like the performance.

Message: According to Red Line, their C+ ATF is ATF+4 compatible. I don't know if their packaging has caught up with that, but they confirmed that for me via e-mail over the winter.

Message: drtswinger: The Mopar ATF+4 (used on the 2000+ models) is a semi-synthetic. Hehehehe...so much for Mopar and using their fluid. ;)
The Royal Purple ATF works just fine.

Message: i have a 2001 durango r/t its AWD and 4x4 and the transmission wasnt shifting when it was spossed to.
i took it in because it had sat for 2 yrs and i was told to flush trans and put new atf and filter. (the old atf had bubbles in it).(49,000 miles)i had this done and i told the shop to use chryslers recomended atf they said ok when i picked it up it was explained that it had been filled with a atf that is good for all makes ... the shifting problem continued. later the tv cable was adjusted and problem solved. now at 74,000 the trans temp light came on after a 20 minute drive (50* outside)... checked lines all fine checked fluid and found bubbles in atf again and smells burnt, stunk up my whole garage ... two days later over drive shuts off and wont come on while im in reverse, when i left hours later it worked again for about 25 miles and then it went off again (while on the interstate at 75mph)...trans temp light has not come back on yet. im being told the trans is screwed due to wrong fluid and needs rebuilt. any ideas??
