Subject: lowering block question IP: Logged
Message: I know this probably isnt the board to ask this on but i figure you guys know more anyways. I replaced my 40lb+ bumper last week with a fiberglass roll pan and it lifted the rear of my truck an inch after spending 600 to have a 2/4 lowering kit installed. Anyhow, I just want to throw some inch and a half blocks back there with my shackles and hangers to bring it back down. I have read that the blocks should be tapered to prevent premature U-joint wear and proper differential alignment. Could someone please explain this? thnaks alot guys!

Message: on some vehicles "like on my jeep" the spring pin is not in the center of the spring. so to counter the difference the blocks have a slant to them. on my jeep the rear side is 1 1/2 inch and the front is 1 1/4. this causes the pinion angle to point farther upward than if the block was flat. since the springs are off center the pinion angle is still 0 degrees on my jeep
my truck came with the blocks and they are equal on both sides. im i have no driveshaft vibes and the 10k miles ive had it never replaced a u-joint.

'97 RC V6, 5spd, soon to be V8, 5spd! Maybe not a 5-speed, but an automatic will work.

Message: Shoe is asking for trouble, and wasting power.
Do a web search on pinion angle. Hot Rod magazine used to have an excellent article on it - it may still be available.
Proper pinion angle will prevent premature drive shaft failure. If the angle is off by even 2*, you'll lose power application.

Message: It has been like this ever since '98. I have never had any problems out of it.

So, you mean that you take it real easy so as not to get pulled over?
Drive it like it's rented, not stolen!
