Message: hey guys i was wondering if someone can help with my dillema. well i got at 2002 R/T with 98,000 miles. it hesitates and stumbles when i accelerate at part throttle. It also makes a poppin sound comin out of the throttle body. i notice on my air/fuel ratio gauge its runs more to the lean side. it only does this when the engine has cooled down. but when the engine is warmed up it runs fine. so far i have replaced the IAC valve, TPS, tune up, 02 sensors.

Message: Yeah i agree with daddio, i had a coolant temp sensor go bad that was tough to isolate as a cause and caused backfiring.
I would up getting several bad ones from autozone.

Message: I'm assuming by your name that you have the 5.9L so check in front of your intake manifold. It'll be left of the a/c compressor.
you'll want to drain a little of the coolant to remove it.

Message: well i changed the temp sensor and it still does it. i have the code P0300 which i believe is multiple missfire. so far i have done TPS SENSOR, IAC VALVE, TEMP SENSOR, CAP AND ROTOR, PLUGS AND WIRES. UNIVERSAL FRONT O2 SENSORS. WENT TO JIFFY LUBE TO GET THE FUEL SYSTEM CLEANED. Just seems to hesitate at low rpms when the truck has cooled down upon start up. i do notice on my air/fuel gauge that it runs in the lean to stoich position until i hit about 2800 RPM its goes to rich. Im thinkin maybe the MAP sensor or somethin

Message: Do you have access to a scanner? If so check what the barometer reading is with the key in the on position or running. A map sensor can start to go and not give a code if the baro read part of the sensor is on it's way out.
It is probably ok after it warms up because the O2 sensors adjust enough.

Message: I tell you, I love EFI engines, but I hate how complicated they get sometimes. You might throw 400 dollars down the drain before you find the problem. Too many sensors and one of them can be bad, but it show characteristics of all the others and may not throw a code. I just wish that sometimes it was still all carburated. That was a lot simpler, oh well just ranting.
'97 RC V6, 5spd, soon to be V8, 5spd! Maybe not a 5-speed, but an automatic will work.

Message: You discribed my problem exactly and I did mostly what you also did to no avail. I used contact cleaner on all connectors I own, PCM connectors, injector connectors, power connectors, et al. I'm at a loss. Could it be the PCM?

Message: I don't know what a fuel sync is? Can you give more info in this please? My MAP sendor is in its origianl location. It tested good according to the simplistic voltage test in the shop manual. I have not had my PCM flashed and why would I need to now?
Some more information: 98K miles, origianl owner, Auto trans, never been in a shop. I changed the plugs, cap and rotor, wires at 60K miles although the plugs still looked good. The problem just started at about 90K miles.
I did learn that if I reboot the PCM the problem goes away but returns after about the third trip to the grocery store.
Thanks in advance,
Mr. Wilson

Message: http://www.bgperformancepcm.com/ is where you can get your pcm flashed with the following
B&G M1 Flash (96-03 JTEC)
This PCM upgrade is designed for vehicles that have installed the M1 manifold.
Revised premium fuel & timing tables
Shift point raised to 5400 rpm
Rev limit raised to 6000 rpm
Torque management removed
Speed limit raised 130 mph
http://forums.delphiforums.com/dakotart/messages?msg=37600.1 This talks about relocating the MAP sensor. Basically you go get some vaccuum tube and relocate where it gets the reading from. Instead of just under the throttlebody its relocated to the side of the intake manifold on one of the open vaccuum ports.
The fuel sync level is set by the position of your distributor. If you don't have a scanner to do it, or know someone who does, take it to the dealership. But this shouldn't be the problem. Especially if you didn't get your pcm flashed.
Most people get their pcm flashed after they do the M1 install. Have you gone to Dakota-Durango.com they have a section on pcms, lots of good info, or just ask, everyone will say to get it flashed. Its worth it IMHO.

Message: Mr. 2002RT,
I dont get any codes. My MAP, IAC, IAT all pass shop manual tests. Engine coolant sendor and TPS are new. From the shop manual, the first O2 sensor is not active until the engine warms up, where I don't have the problem, so it's ruled out. Second O2 sensor is not connected to the PCM. I replaced the cap and rotor today. It runs great when warmed up but I still have the hesitation problem when warming up. About the only sendor I have not checked, because of its' tough location is the battery temp sendor. Also, I don't see how the Crank and cam position sendors can have any effect on this problem. Looks like I'm getting ready for a "new" PCM.
Are you making any progress on your baby?
Thanks,
Mr. Wilson
