Anyone have info on an oil leak/seapage from the area in front of oil pan, flywheel assembly. Its not coming from the filter and its not a huge drip either. I can't pinpoint it...

Flywheel is between engine and transmission.
Front of oil pan is at the other end.

So which is it?

Its on the front of the oil pan. I meant to say the main pulley driving the serp belt.

Is this a common thing for Daks? Only 60k on it. I bought it used recently and it had a real good maint. report. How much are we talking to have this done at a shop?
The timing chain is a week spot on this motor too?

"The timing chain is a week spot on this motor too?" on a 4.7? not to my knowledge. i am not sure how that timing cover is designed but, you may be able to just pull the harmonic balancer and pop that seal out and put in a new one. 1/2 days work, if it can be done that way. i've done it like that on other engines but not a 4.7.

My first thought would be the front cover seal behind the balancer.

Oil leaks can be very difficult to locate. You can spend a lot of time and monet trying to get to the source, and it still leaks. Been there, done that.

My Ford stroker had a small leak that I just couldn't track down. I had the car at a shop for some dyno tuning. He has a neat little machine that found the culprit in about 10 minutes.

The machine injects a hydrocarbon based smoke into the engine. Where the smoke leaks out is the same place the oil leaks out. In my case, it turned out to be the fuel pump block off plate.

Find a shop that has this machine, spend the money to find the answer. In the long run, it will save you a lot of time and effort.

This is the info I was looking for and also if this was a problem others have experienced. I just changed the oil and I really wouldn't know it was there unless I removed the splash guard. I cleaned off everything I could get my hands on and now the new clean oil is seaping out ever so slowly...

so, is it seeping out of the front seal onto the balancer?

I believe it is seaping out of the space between the engine block and the (balancer?) There are small drips running all along the contact points between the engine block and the black assembly that butts up against it. As you can probably tell I'm not familiar with the proper terms for all the parts of this engine, I'm just a guy who doesn't want to get screwed if I have to take it to a shop to get fixed.

I guess I,m a bit old school. If its dripping, you fix it-if its just wet (a seep) you live with it. How many dollars does it bother you?

Now that I've looked again after a drive, and there is a drip coming from where the coolant hose is attached to the block. I just had the coolant flushed by a shop a few months back. Its like I opened a can of worms!!
