Message: Benny, i don't think that Dodge initiated the shift lights on the v8/5spd combos. just the v6/5spds. if it would work, as my '00 3.9/ 5spd does, it comes on at different times, depending on speed & throttle position. the PCM tries to maximize MPG to turn it on. one thing though if you hold the go pedal to the floor, it won't come on.

Message: I wonder what I would get to the wheels if my motor could pull with at least 300HP at the crank shaft? 3.55 gears any ideas?

Message: Some may never learn
Horsepower looks good on paper
Horsepower wins races in all out race engines
(very high RPMs)
Horsepower will give you something to brag about with your buddies
But
On the street and street strip engines
It is Torque!
Torque will get your tires spinning
Torque will get you from one light to the next faster
Torque will pull that heavy trailer or heavy load
and if you build a motor with better low end Torque you can gain fuel economy
That is "IF" you can keep your foot out of it

Message: Excellent points from "well". With the comment about low end torque, he's also touched on a topic that many don't seem to comprehend - that it is the torque curve that matters. How much torque you motor makes at different rpms. This is usually much more important than peak torque numbers, which is what we usually see advertised. We often see bogus claims here that some v6 makes almost as much power as a v8. It is when you look at the torque curves that you see that is clearly not the case.
For 98dakotasport - If you sized the exhaust and TB right you may have increased horsepower 10-15%. Many go too big on the pipes thinking bigger is always better, and that can cost big time on low end torque. The important thing is for mods to complement themselves, you have to look at how they all work together.
