i have 1993 dakota 318 auto loaded it turns 3000rpm on the highway over drive doesnt work but i know people with the same truck that dont turn that in 3rd gear. its an auto 3spd with od making for 4spd total

well get your o/d fixed. thats why your turning 3K. My 99' dakota R/T 5.9L auto turns 2K at 60mph in o/d. so wheni turn the o/d off im turnin about 3K just like you. thats bad on the engine driving at a constant 3K RPM. I'd see what a dealer had to say first before you tear up your tranny.

Also, trucks with different rear gear ratios should be expected to turn different rpm at a given speed.

A lot of trucks comoe with the gar of 3:55 but some come with 3:73. If you have the 3:73 your tuck will rev higher on the highway that someone who has 3:55.

The gear options for the Dakotas are 3.21, 3.55, and 3.92. They don't offer stock 3.73s and as far as i know you can't even get 3.73s for the 8.25 or 9.25 rear ends.

the kid is 100% right
also some had tags under hood or in the glove box that stated what gear ratio the truck came with
or you could all ways chalk mark

i got the entire print up on what it came with the other day the dealer printed it out for me it has 3.55 8.25 rear end46rh trans 318ci im working on pulling the trany right now hopefully this will do it mostly other than that i had major issues with the torque converter doing what ever the hell it wants vs what i and the truck want unlocks whenever i freee wheel locks up tight coming of stop signs every once in a while il come up to a stop sign and it will stall out and ill have to start it when the light turns cause it wont unlock whent on for 2 weeks didnt come out only got worse so its coming out to be rebuilt

your going about it all the wrong way
go to wal mart
buy a plastic kiddie pool
put you trans in there
cover it with amsoil
and let it soak for 48 hrs
truth be told on this website amsoil curse everything!
also great for colds and flu
and removing spots
