Subject: Question about whining noise on 5.2L IP: Logged
Message: Hi, owner of a 97 Dakota CC 5.2L 4x4 here. Since I've bought it, I noticed a whining noise when revving to redline. It's so annoying that I can't really hear the sound of the engine when going at WOT. I noticed other stock trucks do this, as well. My question is, what creates this noise? I'm assuming it's the intake, in which case I wouldn't mind spending around $50 on some cheap chrome intake (not going to spend $250 on a K&N). Anyways, can I get some advice? And if it is the intake, will a cheap intake at least give me more of a V8 sound? Thanks.

Message: Sure it's not the fan? A failing fan clutch might be the issue. Hard to tell without actually hearing it.

Message: Your talking to much noise UNLESS you have NO INTAKE FILTER AT ALL. Most likely it is your radiator fan. You may well have a bad fan clutch or your racing your motor as soon as you start it.
