Hi everyone,
I'm planning on putting new exhaust on my 1992 Dakota with the 5.2L this summer, but i'm wondering if it is worth the money to buy a set of performance Headers (Gibson or JBA) for my truck. I read that the exhaust manifolds on my truck have 1/4" inside diameter ports, so is it worth the money to switch them to headers? Would I get any more performance?

If you have more mods to compound the benefit of headers (cam, TB, heads, PCM, etc.) then go for it. On a mild street truck, the Mopar Performance 25HP computer, bug deflector removed, K&N drop-in, and higher-flow downstream exhaust, the stock manifolds are terrific. Plus the 5.2 will be happy in cold weather. Just hang on to OEM manifolds for future reference or sale.

That's 1/4 inch LARGER internal diameter than the later models. At the time, there were no headers available that could beat them. Given time, the aftermarket has managed to come back and will edge them out, but, to what degree depends on how wild the engine is, like 01Moto.... was saying.

If you do any reading on your truck, You would know the mopar out did them selfs on the exhaust. If your planing on changing anything other then a free flow muffler for sound, you will be hard pressed to develop a system that is as good as what you have. There isn't much gain in exhaust systems unless you develop the intake to provide more air. in other words, if your not able to get more air in you can not get more out. This also calls for building up the engine to handle this new ability.

I am putting a turbo in my Dakota but I need different
manifolds and a hat. What do you suggest that i use for
manifolds and a throttle body hat for a t3 t4 garret turbo kit?

Buy a header kit and start cutting and welding. In all honesty,
you should have all of this planned already before starting
such a project.
