Subject: 2000 4.7 Liter A/C question? IP: Logged
Message: Hello,
Noticed today with the slightly warmer weather that my 2000 4.7 liter AC is only blowing somewhat cool air, certainly not the way it should be.
Put the AC on max and blower on high, the compressor is cycling on about 10 seconds, off about 10 seconds...I think that might be normal.
The accumulator and compressor suction line is cool but not cold. Bought a 10oz can of 134a refrigerant/sealer from Walmart but did not try yet.
Wanted to get some ideas from the group about what the problem might be, and if that refrigerant/sealer is safe to try.
Thanks!

Message: you probably need to add a little R134a. i know it's best to use gages but, you gotta do what you gotta do.
10sec. on and 10 sec. off is cycling too fast.
whatever you do DO NOT put any of that sealer crap. if there is a leak somewhere and you want to fix it, do it properly & professionally. you'll be better off and save money in the long run.

Message: I charged mine. Got the 30 or 40 dollar gauge from autozone and saw it was low. Works like a champ now.

Message: I bought the 10.00 charge hose from Autozone and a can of 134a. Put AC on high and let it run for about 10 minutes.
Can of 134a still feels about half full, not sure if you will get it all in there.
AC does seem to be working better now.
