i cant find anywhere to get true duals for my 00' 4.7. even if its just the pipes, i can provide the muffs. where do i get this? and what about a performance Y pipe?

GS Motorsports makes a bolt on true dual exhaust system with or without cats, but its expensive and doesn't fit worth $hit on my 4.7. Not to sure about the 360s or 318s.

True dual exhaust is illegal for public roadways in every state in the union. It requires removal or modification of the cat system, which carries a $50K fine to whoever does the work. You'll have a tough time finding a shop to do this for you. And you'll have a tough time finding a kit ready made that you can install.
If you want to have it exit before the rear wheels, you should consider doing it yourself.

My '01 4.7 RC has 163K presently, but when I replaced the OEM catalytic converter with a Carsound hiflow about 18 months ago, the info with the Carsound said that replacement was legal regardless after 110K miles or so. I would think if your true duals had two new cats, you're "doing the right thing" because the replacement/ added emissions hardware is brand new! ANY catalytic converter's life is temporary, if the vehicle can live long enough.

technically no cats on your truck would be illegal but if you want to keep it legal u could just forget about the mufflers and run just true duals with cats thats what i am plannin on doin. other wise if u just run straights no cop is gonna look under your truck and see if u got cats but u will probably get a ticket for excessive exhause noise or something. if you have to get your car checked with emissions then i wouldnt try that.

if you do not run cats on your exhaust you'll have the check engine light come for catalyst code.... if you run no cats you'll have to install MIL elimantors on the rear O2 sensors... what they do is that they simulate a frequency back to your ECM as if you had cats... yes its illegal to take off the cats unless the vehicle has no tags on it and used for off road purpose's.. basicly a race vehicle... thats a 50 state standard.... replacing your cat with a aftermarket high flow or OEM replacement regardless the mileage on the vehicle is legal only if that the cat your putting on is 50 state legal....
mufflers.... you can run with out but use a larger tail pipe... larger the pipe will quiet it down some but not alot but will still be loud... yes a cop can give ya a ticket for excessive noise polution and will be in a form of a repair order... then in which you have 15 days to do the repair and have signed of by a state inspector so your tags dont become suspended...

I am about to put an OR X-pipe from spintech on my 318 running no cats to dumped single chamber flowmasters. I know it will be bitchin loud but what do the tickets consist of for running too loud are there hefty fines involved?

midnightdak are you the guy with the black 05 4.7? I saw a page on google images and the guys name was midnight rider or somthin he had the X pipe set up but it was modified for the 4.7 is that you man? If it is I got some questions for you.

as far as fines go... here in the state Maryland if you get a repair order from a police officer which is completely different then a traffic ticket, the repair order can suspend your tags if the repair order isnt signed by a state inspector and returned within 15 days... meaning that you have to take your truck get it repaired for the issue reason on the repair order... if you fail to do that with the time allowed the state police can suspend your tags and if your caught driving on the suspended tags the police can remove tags and tow your vehicle then they'll tell ya have a nice walk...

The federal law is pretty specific. You are not allowed to change the configuration of the cats. Eventually, of course, they have to be replaced. But they have to be replaced with something that duplicates the original configuration, as installed at the factory.
If your truck had two cats from the factory, you can install two cats on a true dual exhaust system. If your truck has single cat with 2 in and 1 out, that's what you have to replace it with.
If you buy an aftermarket cat as a replacement, it must be EPA approved, and should be stamped or come with legal certificate stating that. But it's the installers responsibility to ensure that it meets the above regs, and replicates the original configuration. You can't just buy two EPA certified cats and stick them on there. Well, you can do anything you like, but it won't be legal.
As for the fine, hard to say. Here in CO, a noise ticket will cost you $65. Just mail in a check and you're done. It's not a traffic violation. But if the patrolman gets a wild hair and inspects your exhaust, he could hit you with a federal smog violation; which carries an instant $10,000 fine.
Has that ever happened to anybody? Not that I'v ever heard of. But I wouldn't want to be the first.
And lets be honest, are you really going to gain any additional power from dumping the cats and going with a true dual system? On a mostly stock truck, I think the answer is, "No". Just get a good Y pipe, and replace the cat with a high flow version of the stock part. Then put a single large pipe out the side . Unless your truck is heavily modified, that's about all the exhaust that little engine can use.
Remember, it's only a 286 cubic inch engine. Very tiny by performance standards. In the Mustang, the 289 made good power, but you had to run it to 7,500 rpm's. When's the last time your truck saw that?

.boB you must not know too much about the 4.7 because you will notice a decent difference by getting rid of at least the one big cat and replacing the precats with high flow cats with true duals or an after market y-pipe.
And as far as legality I have been pulled over twice (once in VA and once in MD) for speeding since I installed my true duals and both times the cops have looked under my truck and complimented me for actually having cats on my truck and then comoplimented me on how good the truck sounded. The cops are a-holes around here because there are so many trucks and cars with no cats on them and so many shops willing to get rid of them, for the right price!

Driving your truck onto a big rock and SMASHING the stock cat is a GOOD way to allow a shop to LEGALLY remove and replace a cat. Having them replaced with TWO cats where there is one depends on the shop and area I suppose.
Here in AZ they just LOOK for the cats and plug in a OBD-II scan tool.
I have yet had to take mine in for emissions. If this year is the first, I will let you know what happens.

A buddy of mine has a Mustang GT with an X-pipe and no cats and it is so efin loud and he hasnt got pulled for noise so Im thinkin if they don't pull stangs then they hopefully wont pull me. The shop that did his work is gonna do mine and they do inspection too. :)
