I bought a 2000 extended cab dakota rt that had a salvage title. The cab burned but it did not hurt anything under the hood. All it needed was the cab replaced and any wires that went through the firewall replaced. I took it to a shop that had their rebuilder licences they kept it 9 months then called me and said it wasent going to be worth it to them to fix it and I had to pay him what I owed him or he was going to charge me storage fees. So I said fine but when I get someone else to finish it will you still get my rebuilt title. He said no problem. I took the truck somewhere else and about 2 days later they called me and said that they put a 2002 cab on it and dodge changed everything on the inside so it would not work. They also said that he tried to put a 2000 interior in it and that didn't work either because of the wireing. So I need something I can take to court that breaks down the differences between 2000 and 2002 dakota rt in plain english. I really need a expert like a dodge employee or anyone that could come with me to court and explain to the judge why that a 2002 cab wont work on a 2000 truck even though the body style is the same. This is a mess and is costing me alot of money and I cant find anyone who is willing to help or give me any usefull info. So PLEASE!!!!!! any suggestions or someone that is willing to stand up to a body shop for a fellow RT guy Please contact me This would have been my 2nd rt I love my other one though ANY HELP AT ALL WOULD BE GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The interiors went in a complete changeover in 2001. Any Dodge dealership should be able to tell you this.

I understand that but no dealership is willing to help me. I am going to court over this matter and I would like some kind of book or a person that works at a dodge dealership that can explain exactly why the 2002 cab will not work. I know why it wont but I am not a professional and what I say in court will not go to far. Do you see my problem??? No one that can help is willing to help me in court

it's like putting a round peg in a square hole. they shouldve used a cab from the same year. the bottom line is they didnt do what you paid them to do, you should get the settlement just because of that.

Do you honestly think anyone us going to volunteer to waste a day or two of their time in court to prove your point; especially when you haven't even said where you live ? Sorry to be so rough, but you're being rather naive here.

Get yourself a set of factory shop manuals showing the electrical wiring for both years (they're usually prety cheap on cd on ebay) and you'll be able to show the differences in court yourself.

Cost of salvaged RT: A few thousand.

Cost of to have the first shop do whatever it is he did for 9 months before deeming the truck un-repairable: PRobably another couple thousand $$, if not more.

Cost of cab at the second shop: PRobably in the 1000 dollar range if not more.

Cost of labor to install new cab, attempt to install new interior and wiring: 1000$ or more.

Amount of money it would have cost to paint new cab to match rest of the truck: 800-1000%

The look on the owner's face when he realizes he could have hunted down a fully functional, clean-title used RT, gotten to it, and gotten it home for $10,000 or less: PRICELESS!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I assume you was smart enough to got what each shop agreed to do in writing with a cost factor. This should be simple and straight forward. You need no expert. only your bids and pictures showing things were not completed as specified. On the other hand. If you did all this verbally, It becomes your word against theres and hear say does not apply in courts. In other words, all they need to say is they agreed to TRY do as you wanted and you pay for what ever work and parts they invested trying. Taking them to court is only half of it. They will without a doubt counter sue. Bottom line. As I said. You better have it all in writing in a bid contract.

I understand all of this. But nothing I bring to court with me is gonna be any helpful without a professionl there to say I am right and they screwed up. I live in Carrollton GA and I need a dodge guy or someone willing to help me. The legal system is funny. Nothing can change the fact the wrong cab is on the truck. I need someone to talk to who is willing to help. I know This whole ordeal was dumb but I got done wrong. I need someone to say that cab won't work and why I will even pay for their time away from the shop because I an no professional and what I say in court don't matter. What will matter is if I have someone that can say they screwed up PERIOD and explain why. Please someone contact me with some usefull info and not just to tell me I done something stuiped. Like I said I would pay someone to help me out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would call 1-800-992-1997 Daimler-Chrysler help line and ask them for the number for your local Chrysler zone explain to them whats going on Chrysler has tech engineers they hire to go to court for them in lemon law cases and maybe they can help you. you might try going to your local jeep-dodge-chrysler dealer and find out when the factory rep comes there and see if he can point you in the right direction. ask the parts guys you go to at the dealer they may know.good luck i know its tough to get people to get involved

Buy yourself an interchange book like the wrecking yards use. That along with the numbers on the door jam will tell it all right or wrong. If it's proof you need, the book will tell all unquestionably .

Yeah, I don't see any reason a court would prefer to take a person's word over what it could see printed in black and white. You just introduce that as evidence...

When you get right to the bottom of this problem, there really isn't one. You can put any body on any frame and retro fit the electrics. Hot rodders been doing this for ever. It's just a matter of doing it yourself or paying what it takes to get the job done. There is no limit to what can be done. Any shop worth there salt knows this and WIll chew you up in court. But if you have the bid papers stating what there going to do at what price you have a chance. If this was all done on a hand shake, save the court costs to invest in your unfinished project.
