Subject: power window broken? IP: Logged
Message: my passenger side power window does not work.my wife tried to open it last week when it was very cold and icey outside, that`s when it happened.I removed the door panel and the plastic water barrier. The window itself moves freely so I don`t think that is the problem. I believe the problem has to do with the motor and or the wire cables, the cables were kind of all over the place inside the door. I can`t figure out where they are suppose to go. If anybody can help me out or send me a link to a detailed diagram of the motor, cables and anything else would be greatly helpful. My truck is a 2002 quadcab. Thanks

Message: Same thing used to happen on my 97 with power windows. The glass pane itself came out of the metal grippers on mine. I don't know what the official names of the grippers are but I got the window back in by carefully prying one at a time back enough to slip the glass back into them. Soaping the glass up with some dish soap helps.

Message: if those cables undone from the regulator your best bet is to replace the window regulator.... once those cable come undone from that regulator, they are toast... you can rewrap them a dozen times and it will never stay together...

Message: I have redone my drivers side power window a few times. I think the offroading got to it!
It took a few times but this last time it has held together for months and months.
I used a $5 set of bicycle brake cables from Wal-Mart
Here's a link you can copy and paste of when I fixed mine the first time.
http://www.paysonarizona.net/MyProjects/ProjectDak/BrokenWindowCable.htm
The trick is to get the cable wrapped tight in that spool and the preload tight on those springs so that there is no slop to let the cable get loose in the spool and bind up.
The original failure was because the plastic retainer for the cable broke on the window regulator/slider thing. Not the cable or spool itself.
Good luck. It's easy once you take it apart a few times. Very simple but not so strong these days. Most auto makers use this design.
