Subject: Service engine light and rough running? IP: Logged
Message: Hi everyone,i just bought a brand new dodge dakota 4x4 2007 and when i drove it of the lot after starting it the amber engine symbol came on and started to flash.Once this happened the engine satrted running rough and chogging i couldnt get no power at all.Stopped and took the positive battery cable off for about 5 minutes and then it ran fine..The next day when i started the engine it did this again so i took the batt cable off and replaced it but this didnt fix it this time? I had to drive it to the dealer ship in limping mode lol? Its now at dealer but they havent got a clue whats wrong? They replaced 2 sprk plugs that were fouled and sent it home to me and it did it again. Now they are draining all the gas? Think i will ask for my money back of an exchange on another vehicle..? Any help would be very much appreciated..Thanks from Dakota4x4

Message: Ask for your money back on an exchange; even if you get the problem fixed (probably a band-aid fix) there still may be other problems with the truck. I would try to get a different dakota, same options or upgrade!
My guess is the pcm needs to be flashed. Or probably a sensor is off somewhere, maybe O2.

Message: I live in canada and have had that same problem. I asked a mechanic friend of mine and he told me to put gasline antifreeze in it. I did this and it still ran rough. The truck has been sitting in my driveway for about 2 months without driving it ( I have a company truck). So I ask my friend again and he told me to put 4 bottles of Gasline antifreeze in it. I did that and it ran perfect. I don't know if that id your problem (water in your gas) but it sounds like the same symptoms.

Message: Many different problems will give those same symptoms; so there's no good reason to just assume that's what it is. Since you're still under warranty, take it in to the dealer. There's also no more reason to believe that truck would be more likely to have other problems more than any other you might swap it for...
