Subject: Tensioner? IP: Logged
Message: I just replaced the fan belt on my 00 R/T, the truck will run fine but it will randomly start to squeal and the battery drains till it's dead. The belt wont tighten anymore than it already is, and it seems to be too loose. Also when I turn the A/C on it wont blow cold air out and it too drains the battery. Will a new tensioner fix both of these problems? Or could it be something else?

Message: First things first. Check for something binding or worn belt, or a belt that's the wrong size.
Take the belt off and inspect it. If in doubt, replace it with the correct one.
While the belt is off, see if you can easily spin the alternator pulley, the a/c compressor wheel and water pump.
Then try to turn the power steering pump pulley. It probably wont spin, but you should be able to turn it.
If all seems well, NOW investigate the tensioner.
