 Subject: Transfer Case replacement

My 06 Dakota 4x4 is about to shell out the transfer case. Has anyone attempted rebuilding one? The engine is still kicking hard but the book value of the truck doesn't warrant a rebuilt $1000 transfer case.

i had my transfer case shell out on me also butit was because my u-joint went out and it cracked the housing. i found it simpler to just go to the local junk yard and replace the whole thing. it only cost me about $350 and my lunch hour one day just remember though usually the new case will be empty though so make sure its filled before driving long distances.
