I'm keeping my '01 RC 4.7 5-spd 3:92 anyway, but I still like to compare the latest offerings. One crock is that a 4.7 with manual tranny (5, or 6 speed) can no longer be built witha 3:92 rear gear. The 3:92 can only be had with a slushbox. Performance is taking a beating on the new Daks: weight/ narrow wheels/ skinny rear swaybar/ exhaust resonators/ not designed for HEMI.... Wake up, D-C! Four years to the next redesign? Get busy!

good thing about this is that gears are pretty easy to change so u can throw some 4.56s in there and with the 6 speed that would be some crazy torque with decent highway mileage.

on the dodge.com website
in the Dakota section
look at the 'technical data' link (PDF file)

it mentions:

3.21, available in the 4x2 6 speed manual only
on the ST & SLT models,

3.55, included on 4x4's, Laramie models, not available with HO 4.7

3.92, 4.7 HO option, 4 speed auto 4x4
but "not available with manual transmission"

The info I used was from the 2007 Dakota sales brochure. Same as 911mike's.

If you put 4.56's on a 6 speed manual, you'd use 2nd for most all starts, but 1st would be way too short a gear to want to use it for daily driving, etc.

Hey Mike, I don't know where you are getting your info from but they do not offer the 4 spd auto on the 4.7(it is intended for the V6 only). The 4.7 has a 5 speed auto.

yeah, that low of a gear ratio and it would be like driving a 3/4 stick shift
you wont use 1st unless you have a load
