Subject: 4.7 wires IP: Logged
Message: I know that the 4.7 has the coiless system. At least I think that is what it's called. It doesn't have the traditional spark plug wires. Is there any way for me to get aftermarket wires that replace mine to dress up the engine compartment? I am not too fond of the way these look (plain and boring). Maybe some that also add better performance.

Message: What wires are you looking for the 4.7 has no spark plug wires at all. It has a coil on plug ignition setup where the engine has 8 individual coils mounted directly to the spark plug.

Message: KotaKid is right. No high tension wires to worry about, so it is not 'coil-less' but 'HT wire-less' There are only 12 volt wires to each coil.
A number of people have not even found the spark plugs at first look! They are in two rows of four, each side of the air intake. A coil clicks onto each spark plug and is held down with a small nut.

Message: I know that there are no plug wires, but is there any kit to dress up each individual coil? That's what I originally meant.

Message: The my 6.1L Hemi came from the factory with fuel rail covers that cover the whole engine valve cover area. They provide a more finished appearance, and cover the coils, wires and fuel rail connections. Now, if you can find someone who would make a custom set for the 4.7L, you would be set. There was someone making custom sets of fuel rail covers for the GM LS series motors a few years ago, but I haven't seen any for the 4.7L yet.

You can put some of your fingernail polish on them.

Message: I actually PREFER to be rid of all that plastic engine covers that way you can spot oil/fuel leaks easily whenever you happen to have the hood open.
That simple 4.7 "air hat" thingie went bye-bye right away and I use a simple ABS elbow in it's place so I can SEE the engine.
I think the 4.7 has the wires NEATLY routed as it is since it doesn't have that pesky distributor or spark plug wires.

Message: Personally i agree 100% with GraphiteDak. I think my truck looks more like a truck with out all that plastic crap all over the place. If you want to dress up your 4.7 get rid of the plastic and paint or polish as much of the engine as you can get to reasonably and call it good enough. The 4.7 is already a very clean and nice looking engine stock, but it wouldn't take too much effort to pop the throttle body and valve covers off and paint or powder coat them. And chrome or ceramic polished headers look good too.

Message: And I still like the look of the stock, magnesium impregnated valve covers.
Why would you want to cover or paint/coat such a high tech looking alloy?
The black plastic intake manifold actually matches the gray valve covers well.

Message: Probably for the same reason that 1fastdak wants to dress up his coils, I think it would look better either polished or painted flame red like the rest of my truck.
