Message: Krcperformance.com is the place to go. The NV3500s are not recommended. They have a TKO conversion and are working on the tremec conversion.

Message: Yeah, the NV 3500 is not recommended, something about not being able to handle the torque.
People with turbo's are running them w/ no problem.
My own normally aspirated 4.7, with the nv 3500, puts out more HP and torque than a stock R/T.
However, all the newer, hotter vehicles are going with the 6 speed, I would too, but my love affair with my current truck still has a few anniversaries yet.

Message: The nv-3500(hd) can handle the torque of the 5.9 with no problems as it's rated too at 345ft.lbs.
If you plan on popping the clutch at 6,000rpms at every light, no matter what tranny or rearend you have something will always break.

Message: I would not recommend using a NV3500 if you are planning on doing any clutch dumps over 3000 rpms. The transmission is only rated for 300 ft. lbs. The 5.9 puts out more than that and usually if you are putting a 5-speed in it you are not going to keep the motor stock, so that makes it even worse on the transmission. It is funny, you say that no transmission or rearend would hold up to 6000 rpm clutch drops. That is funny because I know the transmissions on NHRA pro stock cars put out way more torque than a stock 360 and they do not seem to rip out their transmissions or rear ends. Hm...

nv-3500(Heavy duty) is rated at 345ft lbs
I know a hand full of guys on different forums running the nv-3500 behind modded 5.9's and they haven't had a problem yet. Many guys are running SC 5.2/4.7 motors putting way more power down than the 5.9 with mods and they never had a problem either.
NHRA cars have their stuff built and designed for the drag strip. After a few pass everything is taken apart inspected and rebuilt. Anyways this has nothing to do with the question at hand.

Message: Just because they have it behind there does not mean that they are tuff on it. I know people with stock 4.7s that seem to rip out the NV3500. I also know of people runnin AX-15s behind 360s. If you treat it right and do not slam the gears and do extreme RPM clutch dumps then it will be ok. It is all based on how you drive.

Message: I totally agree!!!
With normal driving with some fun the nv-3500 would do the job. BUT if we are talking about a strip or circuit truck I wouldn't even look at the nv-3500
That's it!!
