Subject: Source for rebuilt 4.7 head(s) IP: Logged
Message: I've got my neighbor's '01 4.7 apart because it was running hot and using coolant. Found deep corrosion on the RH cylinder head between the combustion chambers. I could have it welded and rebuilt locally - But I'm sure there are rebuilt heads out there for less money. Anyone used a specific cyl. head rebuilder/supplier with good luck? I'm in the Chicago/Milwaukee area but nationwide suppliers are fine. I've checked the internet and found a couple for $275/$300 per head. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Steve H.

Message: Well I just went out to the garage and looked at the head again. It's hard to measure the depth of this because it's not very wide. I'm thinking 20-30 thousandths (not the 50-60 I had thought earlier). Still a little deep to just surface. And surfacing that much might affect valve to piston clearance, compr. ratio, cam timing, etc. I am going to have the local shop check them... he might surprise me with his recommendation.
