Message: What is it with '99 Dakota front-ends?
I've had 3 Dakota R/T's; 2 '99's and one '00.
(i curentley have a '99)
The '00 was the perfect truck, 'till my wife hydroplained it....
My first '99 went through 5 hub-bearings in 7 months before Dodge bought the thing back.
The '99 i have now makes awful sounds AND feedback(feels) through the steering!!
Anybody else had these gremlins?

Message: do you mean poping and clicking in the column? Mine did the same thing when i first got it. Drop the lower knee cover and loosen the steering bolts a cpl of turns, just enough to let the column slide easily and push the steering wheel and column down, then retighten the bolts make sure they are tight I forget the torque spec but use your judgement and make them tight. take it out for a ride and see if its better. there was a TSB on this from the factory I'll see if i can find it again. some people might laugh but i've seen bad vechicle grounds burn up hub bearings like your truck did. let me know how you make out

Message: Thanks!!
I will try it tonight or first thing in the morning!
There were other issues on my '99; rear-end howled BAD; at about 90mph, vibration was SO BAD that i would rather have walked (i ruled it out as off-balanced flywheel and/or driveshaft).
They made it good for my '00 which was a PERFECT truck...until my wife met a pine tree in passenger door at 65/70mph(hydroplane); NO PROBLEMS at 43k miles on that one.....
thanks again for info

Message: I've had the wheel bearing thing before after many miles the original ones needed replacing. NAPA sold me a few but they were no good as soon as they hit the sales counter. The inner race rattles as I found out when they first put them on the truck before they put the wheel on. It echoed in the garage when you push/pulled on them hard.
You have to get the ones at the dealer with the letter "A" at the end of the number engraved on them!
I also have an inbalance on my 98 Dak Sport. Bought new rims and tires but it still may be the place where I USE to get my tires. They said they were too far out of round when I took them back to gt rebalanced so I think it's their machine!
