Subject: Oil Consumption IP: Logged
Message: I have a 03 Dakota R/T that has been using about 1.5qts of oil every 3000 miles. I can't seem to find the problem.
-There is no aparent oil leaks
-I checked the Plenum and say no oil signs just a slight clear coating look to it.
Any ideas would be very helpful

Message: Is she blowing blue smoke out of the tail-pipe? You might have already worn out the motor. STAY OFF OF IT!!!

Message: I had the same issue. I eventually changed the plenum gasket, that did the trick. Do you have any pinging?

Message: You can test your plenum gasket by spraying a mist of water from a bottle near the suspect area (while engine is running obviously). If you get a change in RPM's, she's leaking. If not, the manual says a faulty PCV System could cause excessive oil consumption. I lost about the same amount of oil my last cycle on my 2000 R/T. Found my L-fitting on the left valve cover cracked in half. That would qualify for PCV system faulty. If you want full PCV check-out procedures, email me at dodgert63@yahoo.com
Good Luck

Message: to use that much oil in 3,000 miles will not be visible going out the exhaust. It can still be the plenum . Also other causes are bad valve seals, worn valve guides, PCV valve, weak rings, and maybe some not coming to mind. You never mentioned how many miles on the truck but my money goes on the plenum or PCV. If you change your PCV get a new one from the dealer. Not all after market PCV valves will function proper on our Dakotas

Message: I can attest to OBI03's comment on aftermarket PVC's. Mine rattled like crazy in my 5.9L R/T until I got one from the dealer. It was only 2 bucks more than Autozone's!
