Message: Yes, '04 was the last year. Finding a RC 2wd 4.7 5-speed is rare. Especially a 2000 model, which I like the most, because of the fact that it has the good style dash, not the '01- newer styled dash.

Message: Wow. Dodge really sucks... I just went to their site to configure a Dakota to see about Rich's question. It seems you can *ONLY* get the manual tranny on the ST model now. It's no longer available (or at least right now) on the SLT. Jerks!
When I selected it on the SLT configuration I was greeted with this popup...
6-Speed Manual Transmission is not available with Khaki, Rear Sliding Window, Convenience Group, Power Convenience Group, SIRIUSŪ Satellite Digital Radio. Selecting a different part will make this transmission available.

Message: Thanx , people !! This is exactly what I'm up against ! I want a SLT/4.7/6spd/CC , but it seems Ma Mopar has followed Phord and limited this configuration . Don't get me wrong , the V6 manual is a very worthy truck , but the 4.7/6spd would , IMO , be a truly righteous ride ! And don't think I haven't been on the scout for a used one , I think they only made 2 of them ! Even more scarce than a 4 banger !!

Message: I was lucky my dealer found mine and drove 550 miles each way to get it. It had everything I wanted except the 4-wheel ABS, tow pkg, and leather steering wheel w/audio controls.
As of now the 6-speed isn't available with the flex-fuel V8, but hopefully Dodge will come back around. In '05 & '06 they were the only company offering a V-8, stick. But manuals just aren't popular with Americans. They are getting harder to find every year.

Message: I'm still ticked at D-C for canning the regular cab. In 2001, I spent 4 hours on dodge.com before finding my current Dak: a RC 4.7 5-spd. manual 3:92 LSD. Out of the 1028 Dodge Motorsports Limited Editions built in 2001, a large number were 4.7 5-speeds to fit the NASCAR personality. They even came with the 9.25" rear end! The Gen.III RC 4.7/manual weighed only 3759 pounds; 500 less than the lightest Gen.IV. Ah, for the "good ole days"!

Message: actually, the 01+ interiors are the "good" style otherwise why the hell would they have bothered changing it without changing the whole truck. an improvement is an improvement. spend a few hours in an 01+ and then sit in a 00 and earlier and u will see wat im talkin about.

Message: It's all a matter of preference. I had my two trucks with the "new" dash before I bought my "old" dashed truck. I got used to where everything is layed out, so when I drive the 1999 RC things are just not in the "right" place. I don't feel either design is better than the other - just different.
Although, I do like the seats in the 1999 better than my 2001 or 2002...

Message: Joey - Since you ask, it's my understanding that the reason for the redesign that eliminated the tach and gauges was to save money. Companies are always looking for ways to cut costs. I find the interior set up in my '00 convenient; so just what is it about the redesign that leads you to the conclusion that it is better ? Just that it was changed ?

Message: I do not like the '01 and newer dashes because they look so plain and they are flat. There is no curviture to the dash. It seems like to me that D-C did not really care how it looked.

Message: it just seems to have a more modern and symmetrical look to it without eliminating the tach and other things like on the 05+ models. i just think that they changed it because it was in need of some improvements or updates. I prob wouldnt have said anything but i didnt like how it was said.... "because of the fact that it has the good style dash, not the '01- newer styled dash."..... as modain says it should be a matter of preference just the way it was said turned me off thats all.

Message: I haven't seen the newer dash you refer to myself; but I recall a few posts complaining about the cheaper plastic look to it and less gauges when it came out. If it has less gauges, I'd think it less functional; maybe that's part of why Shoe calls the older ones the good style dash. Once you spend a few hours behind any dash, and have got used to it, anythig else will feel odd - I don't think that's the best way to choose. Many posted they didn't like the changes at the time.

Message: the new dash with less gauges is on the 05+ dakotas. the 01-04 dakotas had the same gauges as the 97-00 ones except that the tach goes up to 7 on the 01-04 instead of 6 and the transmission indicator is digital instead of analog which is a major plus for people who install a floor shifter because the digital display will still work but if u have the analog one it wont. besides that though the gauges are all the same on the 97-04 dakotas.
