1993 cc v8 4x4 auto
So i was changing my plug wires the other day cause one was bad, and i decided to look down the intake. on one side there was hardly a trace of oil. on the driver side, there was a bit. it wasnt a deep pool of it, but some. Is this a sign of my plenum gasket going bad. I have checked this before and didnt notice it.
Another thing, how bad is it to do this job? is it like changing the intake gasket on a small block chevy? Is this plenum gasket the intake gasket? I know it sounds like a dumb question, but i was a chevy guy before this dodge and i never heard of anything called a plenum gasket.
Im gonna go get a book, but until then, can someone give me the rundown on replacing this gasket and what to look out for?

Before you get carried away, It is normal to see a tiny bit of oil in the intake. You never mentioned any sign it is leaking, mainly pinging. If no pinging there is no problem. If there is pinging, there is a good chance your plenum gasket is leaking but it is not proof positive as there are other things thsat can cause it.
The plenum is a cover on the bottom of the intake. If you do need to change it, your 2 smartest options are either an after market intake that has no plenum or an after market aluminum cover that is about 1/4" thick. If you fix the setup that is in there now,you can buy a much better gasket and hope it does the trick. I haven't had this problem so far so I'm not going to say how hard it might be but myself, I would make my own plenum aluminum cover. I have a hobby machine shop although it's not so hard to make in a garage with a few simple tools. Looking at it, I see nothing harder then most other V8's.
