Message: Hope it works out for you.The 4.7 can be a pain to bleed, likes to hold air so hopefully it`s normal.
I thought of grinding out the channel enough to square it up/clean it good and using aluminum based JB weld then machining it. Just an idea,JB weld might not hold up or break free with the large temp swings it would see.

Message: Well I've run it a few more times today. It seems that the air bubbles are gone. Hopefully it was just a bunch of air to bleed from the system. I'll check more on it tomorrow.
Thanks,
Steve H.

Message: Good luck with your project. The Dakota I had done work on ended up dropping a valve seat 50k miles after the head gaskets were done. Put in a rebuilt engine after that. The 4.7 motors are expensive to rebuild. You may want to consider a rebuilt with a warranty or a low mileage used from a Dakota or Durango. BTW - pull the motor first, then disassemble it. Esp if you have a knock and the crank needs attention. If you rebuild or find used it may cost you $2k+ to do it. Be prepared.

Message: OUCH. I was actually debating that the other day.. Ive had some icky luck with vehicles.. Im 25 and Im on my 9th since I was 16.. Sooo yeh. I may start looking around for a low mileage or Warranty like you said, to have on hand.. I figure the day will come sooner or later, I just dont wanna admit it. Ive had this Dakota for 3 years, and its never really cost me more than a thermostat and routine maintenience.. Until recently.. :( As far as the truck itself, I will keep it, dispite repairs.. Its in great shape elsewise..

Message: I recently did the head gasket job and make sure you are well prepared for this if you decide to do it. I did it by myself in my garage and it took me the better part of 3 days. My advice is to get a rebuilt if you have a knock. Also depending on where you live, I have a set of heads for sale you could rebuild before putting on (its what I did) and that saves you time waiting on the machine shop.
