Anyone tried out these Vortex Air inserts? The theory sounds like a good one, but I wonder if they truely work? You know the things I'm talking about.. they're made of stainless steel or aluminum and they insert into your intake tube.. suposed to "supercharge the air coming into your vehicle" I heard the same thing about throttle body inserts and mine just made the truck wistle.

There have been several posts about these and other scams. The air in your intake is drawn into the engine and turned by the machining in the intake manifold. Spinning the air in the intake tube is a waste of movement, money and probably restrictive to some degree.

You could pull the intake manifold and do a polish job inside the ports, but most normal use engines don't need that.

I figured as much, but I thought I might check what the rest of you guys think. I know I already got taken on ebay with an "electric Turbo Charger" basicly a giant PVC pipe with a 12v muffin fan inside of it pushing the air. I also got the throttle body spacers and that did nothing but waste 1/2 a day tearing appart my throttle body and installing something that makes my truck wistle when the accelerator pedal gets pushed.

Never know though, I thought someone might had had luck with those things..

I don't think the theory is even good - putting a restriction in your intake to make more power ? If you believe it, maybe you'll be the lucky one... ;-)

Well I do have Dynoscan and an OBD-II hookup for my laptop. Maybe I'll do a little scientific comparision (Once my truck stops backfiring) with the vortex and without. They have auction on ebay with a vortex thing and one of those magnet fuel line thingies.. test em both out and post the results :D

j/k about that working for you, don't waste your $$$ on either ! If putting a cheap magnet on a fuel line would help milage or power, don't you think Detroit would be doing that ?

Yeah thats true I guess.. save up for something that actually shows a power increase I guess... a nice cat back system or a PCM flash.

Save the extra for the flash or a superchips you wont get near the gains with a catback .Does sound real pretty

Follow josh's advice. Unless your building a race truck you don't need anymore upgrades. Let's face it, we would all love to build super high power trucks that will blow the doors off anything that come along side but unless you have a race track to drive it on you'll soon find yourself paying alot of speeding tickets or realizing you wasted alot of money on a motor you can't use to it's limits. Do the regular maint. and install the "chip" also new tires and wheels help with how the truck holds the road. But most important improve your driving skill. Take a Skip Barber driving school class and learn how to drive fast. Remember A great driver can make any car or truck proform well but a bad driver just drives bad nomatter how good the car or truck is.

LOL!!! Point well taken for sure.. and does a Class A CDL count for a driving class :D hehehe, if I can drive a 52' Peterbuilt going thru the hills of Utah during a blizzard.. I got a pretty good idea on how to handle this truck :D

You're right by the way on the mods. I added the cold air intake, and the now the low temp thermostat. I'm thinking about the superchips programmer or Hypertech along with a cat back exhaust system. No major mods like the super chargers or cam's / roller rockers. Just a little extra added UUMMMHHHH off the line and extra torque for those towing situations.

Of course the gas improvement would help a ton too. So I was kinda wondering about the magnets and vortex thing. I did find an write-up online from Pop Mechanics and they tested 4 or 6 different mods.. all said they were not worth the material they were made from.

I am not a expert but from what most folks say and are doing the Superchip is the way to go.I have really heard nill on the Hyperchip I heard a few folks returned them for a SC.I would go with the majority if your thinking of a chip.Mr Kowlaski got the Flash and is also happy.

I honestly wish superchips would come out with a way for the guys with Laptops and OBD-II connections to download the new superchips software and load it that way. Course honestly I don't know how long I'm gonna have the truck.. I reallllllllllly want a Ram 2500 cummins :D Then its all Bulldog stuff :)

Hey GUS, Glad to see I'm not the only GEAR JAMMER out here, Been drivin CDL-A for 21 years. Sorry if I sounded like I was on my high horse but alot of the younger guys here think it's all about making BIG POWER. Just trying to help some of them to not make any mistakes. My current truck---2004 Kenworth T800. C-12 turned up to 450 HP backed by a 14 speed w/deep reduction.

Yeah I know the feelings truck guy. I've seen sooo many domestics and import jobs with the big loud mufflers, all blacked out from tail lights to air packages running down the road at 120 plus only to loose it on the next semi-steep curve they find. Poor guys love the speed, but have no way at all to control it.

As for me.. just got a new truck, I'm 28 years old and finally paid this bad boy off. Its a 2005 Peterbilt Model 379 ultracab, with the cummins ISX 600hp for those long tows. This ones actually got the 6 speed allison Automatic in it.. but my last truck had the 18 spd fuller with the floating clutch :D

Ok kowalski.I'm not going to force You.You will confess it next time...
Some history..It was funny time by us.We could not buy the gas in normal way-only by coupons, which we were recieving every month with salary. We have had a coupons for almost everything-meat,sugar,cigarettes etc..
Most popular car was Fiat 126.Was really small.I could put it on my Dak's bed.Displacement was 600cm.Monthly fuel coupon was for 200-300 miles..
So,it was a beginning of a gas savers by us.
Allready at that time we found, they do not work!

Hey Gus, guess you spent some money on the new RIG. Sounds like a sweet ride. I do just day haulin so I can be home every night. Did the over the road thing for 15 years, once my kid was born I gave it up so I could be home to watch him grow up. Good luck with the new truck keep the rubber side down and the crome side polished.
