Subject: 93 5.2 no spark
IP: Logged

Message:
I am not the owner of this truck, I am helping a friend.

I get no spark at the plugs, no spark from the coil.

I saw a positive voltage at the coil inputs for just a moment during cranking and then nothing.

The failure is intermittent, he says this has happened before. Temperature seems to be an issue.

What do I check next??

Thanks

Dan (God bless small block Chevy's with HEI ignitions)

Check for codes.
Ignition on, off, on, off, on, then leave on(never starting or turning over engine). count blinks of check engine light. Short pauses indicate a 2 digit number. long pause indicates moving on to different number. THEN come back here and tell us.

Try pulling the molded plug to the coil and spreading the pigtails. Sometimes they lose contact and fail to provide a voltage to the coil.

Check splice in wires about 6 to 10 inches down
the harness under the fuse/relay box [drivers fender wall ]. Also possible - bad pickup -Crank Position
Sensor -mounted on bell housing -passenger side.

it most likely is the crank position sensor. but again, check the CODES. ALWAYS check codes FIRST!

You mentioned temperature sensitive. In what way. Does it work at times when cold and then a no go when engine gets hot? That indicates an open coil. your explaination was incomplete in this area. With what you said. the short answer is what jayb mentioned.

So many problems .... So little time
