if the dyno chart shows different peak torque and hp peak rpm's that could be the difference. also PCM programming. a little more fuel and a little more timing could make the diff between standard and ho.

There is similar discussion going on:click here To Graphite Dak:KIRBY ,who is Dodge tech sent me this:"You already have the intake on there, but the cams
are still an upgrade. Not sure about horsepower
numbers though. I definately noticed a decent
pick up in my 2004. I compared the cams when I had them out. There is alot more duration in the HO cams just by looking at them, but I did not measure the lift." My be we will find someone who did dyno on 2003+?

well, i found specs for the standard cams. now if we had some ho cam specs to compare them to.

copied from allpar.com

0.443" lift on the intake, and 0.429" on the exhaust, duration is 244 degrees intake, 254 on the exhaust, partially compensating for the smallish exhaust valves. Overlap is only 18 degrees.

Info I found was from and old post, and differs from dadio's slightly. It said exhaust specs were the same for both engines at .429 lift and 250 degrees; with the HO having more intake lift (.472 vs .443) and less duration (236 vs 243).
Maybe changes slightly through the years, or just the results of someone's measuring ? DC is pretty good about marketing power, seems to me that if the '03 up had HO cams they'd make more power, and DC would capitalize on that. They still claim same power though, so I believe the HO cams are an upgrade.

The HO engine is vastly different from the standard engine. It's like they had big plan for the HO engine and then cancelled those plans?

Lots of differences, but only a few that actually make power. Things like the stronger crank and knock sensors don't increase power - I assume that's what you mean by big plans, stronger crank seems like overkill with the power difference. Stronger valve springs make it safer to rev higher, but again don't make any more power.

I don't think I was being vague or unclear about what I wrote. The HO engine has the potential to handle considerably more additional power and torque than the 30 hp & 30 lb/ft they gave it. Something the standard engine could easily handle so, why go through all the trouble of giving it a forged steel crank, dual knock sensors, improved valvetrain components, hiflow head design, better connecting and many other upgrades. Don't you think this was overkill considering the power gain they gave it? Afterall, it's not like the standard engine was on the verge of flying apart with the power it had.

Thought you were insinuating vast diferences that made power; since this thread has been about the power differences of the HO cams - my bad.

Definitely - that's why a lot of us have added the HO cams and some more ignition advance so the biggest power difference for us seems to just being down .5 in compression...
