throw your opinions at me. i installed a stant 65358 180 degree thermostat about 3 months ago in my 2000 dakota 4.7 auto 4x4. tonight i lost my heat, then i started to over heat, i turned on the heat and still no heat. coolant everywhere when i opened the hood. pressure cap was loose so i am assuming that is where is was pouring out of. the coolant system was bone dry. yes i modified the thermostat with the notch and the hole. do you think it just gave up and stayed shut. time to put back in the stock one. pleace give me your suggestions!!!!! ASAP

either have the stat in the wrong way, stat can be bad,air trapped in the system,or you lost your coolant.what mods are done to the 4.7 anyway?

Could be a thermostat problem, or there could be lots of other causes. The reason you lost your heat was likely because you lost your coolant; probably didn't realize it overheated first and then you lost your heat. You don't get heat when the heater core sees an air or steam pocket.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

the 180 t-stat is worthless. i had it in my dak, and it did nothing what so ever, except give me worse gas mileage. that engine is designed to be at 195 or so. so by keeping it lower than that, the computer stays on the warmup cycle longer, and richens up the mixture. a total waste.
