Why did the 2001 Quad Cab have only 230HP and the other 2001 models have 235HP?
Is this measured at the wheels HP? It woudl seem so, all other things being equal...

not enough HP ! 235 at the fly, 190-200 at the
rear wheels, numbers vary, depending on 2x4
or 4x4. 208 is like the best "dynod" HP that
I've heard of.

Actually not all 2001's had 235, mine says 230 on the window sticker and its a Southern model from VA. I have a 2001 4.7L 5-speed for the record and if Im not mistaking all 2000's had 235 and in 2001 they added an extra cat to make three cats and that took like 5 of our horses atleast this is what I have come to have found out?

Yep the 230 hp version is considered the LEV model. (Low Emissions Vehicle) its the same as the California version and its available in the Northeast as well as the Mid Atlantic states.
I'm also in VA and mine had, HAD :) 3 cats !

CW, I have the cams but have not had time to installed them as of yet. Hopefully in the next week or two! I should get my intake today. I'll probably install the intake this weekend, prior to the cams. I want to see what just the intake will feel like, prior to the cam swap.
I will report my finding to the board !!
BTW, in regards to the cam chains,do they a timing mark on them ??? and where you able to use all your original bolts to re-assemble?

Yep all of the original bolts. You don't take the gears off of the chains, just off of the cams. They are held in place by the chains. There are V-8 marks on the sprockets and they should point at 12:00.

Wow, 23-24% loss thru the driveline... that seems steep... but then again it is an automatic and those are always power thieves... but wow... that surprises me. Oh well... just imagine how scary the numbers are on the V6 & I4!!! :-)

Regular cab has 235, quad cab shows 230. Quad cab is a little heavier.

vehicle weight has absolutely nothing to do with HP output. If i had to guess i'd say there might be a 5hp difference due to more rotating weight from a longer driveshaft and a slightly longer exhaust system.

LEV 230 HP 4.7L has 3 cats
Federal 235 HP 4.7L has 2 cats
yes its illegal to remove any cat. converter.
the factory cats are weld in, so no there are no bolt in replacements.

i was led to believe the 00's had 235 with only 2 cats right and the 01's and up have 3 cats regardless of state??
mine is a 00 model that I special ordered from a dealership in kansas and its rated at 235hp...heck who knows.
