Subject: M/T with the 318 IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys,
I've been doing some research, trying to find which manual transmission was paired to the 318.
It looked like either an Ax15 Tranny or the New Venture 3500.
Does anyone know if the Ax15 was ever paired to the 318 or was it just the Nv3500? Thanks!!

Message: the ax 15 was used in Cherokees and wranglers too, as well as 3.9 Dakotas... most 4 bangers had a much weaker AX5. I have a 93, AX 15 from a 2WD 3.9 Dak taht Im getting ready to put behind a 318 Magnum in a Plymouth Volare.

Message: I have a 95 dakota, short bed-standard cab, 318 NV3500, 8.25 w/3.92 and I installed a Hurst short throw shifter. The NV3500 is a stout transmission that can withstand a-lot of abuse. I would recommend it over a T-5 any day.

Message: I'v always wanted to the swap but i wanted something toughter than an nv-3500 that can still haul 6500 pounds a be able floor it but i don't like the ratios of the nv-4500, i think they are too wide and first gear is to low in a truck as light as a dokota. anybody know if a tremec can tow a good load at about 3/4 its total hp rating?

Message: They have some that handle up to 600 HP. These are supposed to be very reliable transmission. Supposed to be able to withstand 5000-6000 RPM clutch drops. :)

Message: Yeah, but usually the transmissions that are paired with the V6s are not stout.
