I have a 1998 Dakota sport 4x4,V8. I have command start installed as well. The problem that has come up is the fan will not shut off when you shut off the truck.I removed the command start fuses thinking it was causing it with no success.I have to play with the fan spped switch and the key back and forth to finally get it to shut off.any ideas?????

More than likely there's a relay that's got some sticking points. Trace the wires from the fan and you should find the relay.

sounds like your ignition switch is worn or more than likely the ignition cylinder end inside is broken and not turning the switch inside all the way. Is the key switch loose? do you have trouble starting the truck sometimes?

No need to yell. I asked because you didn't specify. Different wiring. Different possibilities.

i'd check the relay first. if it was the ignition switch/cylinder wouldn't all keyed accessories stay on?

Dan the relay is outside in the PDC/Fuse panel under the hood its marked HEVAC and should be next to the wiper and starter relays read the label under the cover to be sure. I dont think you are going to be able to swap it with another relay to test it i believe its an old style Bosch relay and all the others are new style smaller ones you'll see what i mean when you look in the PDC. let us know how you make out. DADDIO the ign sw is circular inside different accessories are along the contacts thats why only the high draw accessories turn off when the key is turned to start. the reason i said to look here because he mentioned turning the key back and forth to turn it off. many of these cylinders break the collar that turns the ign switch inside. its hard to imagine if you havent seen inside one once you did you'd understand

Not familiar with your year fan control, but I'll assume it has an OFF position. If you can turn the fan off by rotating the fan control to this OFF position, then the ignition switch is the likely culprit. It's supposed to supply +12VDC to the blower motor only when it's in the RUN position.

Thanks for the info so far. Just to clarify a couple things, I found it will shut off by turning the selector switch below the speed switch to OFF position. If the selector switch is not turn to OFF then i have to turn the ignition key ONE position FWD and move the fan speed switch back and forth then turn the key to OFF and it will shut the fan off as well, this procedure however takes a few tries sometimes before it shuts off. I am not sure if that info. changes some of the suggestions btween either the relay or the ignition being the culprit?????

Partsmanager,

On my 01 QC, ....., the radio, and the turn signals, go out intermittently, for no reason.

I found my wiggling the key in the ignition a bit, they come back on.

I called my local dealer, and said this was a sfety hazard, they said out of warranty, not covered.

Still could be a stuck relay. Turning the key off and on may be energizing the magnetic coil off and on eneough to break the points loose.

If it uses a relay. I've never looked to see if they use a relay for the fan.

No relay, Graphite.
From battery(+) to fuse(40AMP) to ignition switch(RUN) to blower motor to resistor block to speed switch to ground.

Hmm then has to be the ign switch. If the fan switch was bad, it would STILL stop with the key.

Hope all goes well Dan but leave the possibility open that they may call you back and say you need a ign lock cylinder too. It may also be broken/worn out by now too. good luck
