Message: from other posts I have read it could be a bad speed sensor which is on the rear differential and easiest to replace, or a bad crankcase position sensor. These give false reading to the computer when bad and cause problems such as yours.

Message: this is what you need to do. you need to check to see if there is any codes poping up. do this by turning the key on, off, on, off, then on and leave on. your check engine light will blink. count the blinks. a large pause between blinks means its going on to the next number. a short pause means its going onto the second digit of the same number. then come back here and tell us the numbers. oh yea, when i say turn the key on, i dont mean start the truck.

Message: Ditto on the tranny speed sensor. Also check the kickdown adjustment (passenger side of the throttle body on one end and linked to the tranny on driver side. Matter of fact, check the tranny shift lever as well, could be loose). The plastic clips holding the cable may be broken, or it could've just popped out. Even the Haynes manual in any auto parts store covers these issues with illustrations--maney well spent for a truck) I'd check the kickdown first, then replace the tranny sensor for the speedo issue.
If you get the manual, it'll have a section on retrieval and decoding the computer codes as well.

Message: Don't worry about the "crankcase position sensor" - there's no such thing. He probably means crank position sensor, but it won't be that either. Could be speed sensor though - its in the rear for '00 and up for sure, but I'm not sure if it's in the rear or in the tranny for a '95. Anyone know for sure first year it was moved to the rear ? Did you get the codes ?

Message: Might not be throwing a code then. I've heard of others woth a bad speed sensor not throwing code. Your speed sensor may well be in the rear, that is likely part, or maybe even the whole problem.

Message: Enjoy your "new" truck. Take care of it, drive it responsibly (tips I needed when I got my first vehicle at 18), and it should serve you well. Welcome to the site !
