Subject: 4.7L upgrades IP: Logged
Message: I had a 2000 dakota r/t but had to get rid of it due to an expanding family. I now have a 2000 durango slt 4.7L 45rfe. I'm wondering about swapping out the cams for the jeep h.o. cams and also the intake manifold as well. does anyone have the part #'s or year of jeep that will work best for my application. Any help is appreciated.

Message: Before you replace the intake manifold consider this: the 2000 I/M yields better torque gains in lower RPMs than the HO I/M does, the HO I/M yields better HP gains at higher RPMs than the 2000 I/M does.
Where do you want your power? Lower RPMs - stick with your current I/M. Higher RPMs - put on the HO I/M.

Message: Will the H.O. cams work with the stock intake? What kind of gains can I expect to see from the cams.

Message: I have an '01 4.7 with the stock intake manifold,,and the HO cams. They work wonderfully. Best mod I've done so far. They were cheap when I bought them,,like $120 or so. I only replaced the cams,,not the springs. Now I'm eye'n some crazier ones from KRC,,,but $$$!,,,,,will definitely be putting better springs in then. Plus a tune,,and cleaning up the heads if I have the $$$.
Living in FL is expensive, I miss TX!

Message: should the valve springs be upgraded when the ho cams are installed? Is the original pcm able to adapt to the h.o. cams? Any other tips or tricks would be appreciated

Message: The HO cams are not that agressive form the stock ones. You don't need to do anything else with the cam swap.
However, if I had it to do over, I would have bought a set of CUSTOM 4.7 Cams. Like the 206 at least. And I have even heard people succesfully use those WITHOUT changing the cam springs.
Of course, this is all opening up HP on the 4.7, but could take away seom off throttle power. But with my current gears, I want more up high now.
