Subject: Oil on radiator? IP: Logged
Message: Had some major weeping from my water pump. Changed it out and the weeping has stopped. Now I have what appears to be oil in my radiator and reservoir. It's black and not milky like I would expect motor oil and a water mix to be.
No visible sign of water in oil. Temp and oil pressure are both fine with no engine miss. Any ideas?

Message: new water pump may have been over lubed if you put a rebuilt one in. Myself I stopped using rebuilt water pumps years ago. Had way way to many that I had to redo at my expence from poor quality rebuilding. Also did you use gasket sealer. like permatex 1 or 2 ? May have used to much. If you didn't have this problem prior to changing pump then expect the problem to be related somehow. Don't try to over read what's gong on.

Message: I noticed the dark stuff while I was installing the new (really new) water pump. Sorry, shoulda clarified that earlier.
Upon asking around and using my best educated guess, I have pretty much concluded that it isn't motor oil (I hope). Anytime I have seen oil and coolant mix, it has produced a milky, frothy result. This stuff looks more akin to gray water from a backed up sewage line.
I drained the cooling system this evening, gave it the ol' Prestone flush, backflush and refill. As I said earlier, no leaks, good temp and oil pressure. I'm going to drive it for a coupla days and see if the antifreeze blackens again.
Will update in the next coupla days.
Thanks, OBIO3.

Message: Bean.... My experance has been that water in the oil gets whiped up pretty good causing the mixed grey color. It will seperate if setting long enough. Oil in the radiator doesn't get whiped up near as bad and therefor doesn't mix causing the oil to travel through the system as bubbles as your seeing. Glad you figured out yoiur problem..
