So I have a 1992 3.9L, the engine has 135,000 and still runs strong besides the broken engine mount...It still hauls a$$....anyways, I was looking to re-do the truck all over, and wanted to drop in a bigger engine. What engine would be the best to drop in considering price, fit and horses!!! I was thinkin putting in a 440, or just a 360 Im not sure yet, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Josh

P.S. anyone have pictures of their engine swap in a Gen II?

If you've got the money, time, and know-how, it can be done. But it's not always cost effective. You'll need to swap the suspension, trans, rear, driveshaft, and fuel system to handle the added power.

What you do depends on the overall condition of your current truck, and what your future plans are.

Consider trading your truck in for one with a 360/5.9 engine. A few minor mods to that and you'll have lots of fun power without a huge expense, and still meet emissions requirements.

OTOH, if your goals are a huge engine with huge torque numbers, stock V8 parts won't get it and will need to be replaced anyway. Then you're better off dumping the weak V6 parts, and installing heavy duty aftermarket parts.

.boB has some good advice. the way i would approach it is:
#1) how much do i have to spend? $ or $$$$$
#2) what will i use the truck for? daily driver/racer, etc.....

answer those and go from there.
