Subject: custom exhaust input? IP: Logged
Message: in the next couple of weeks i am taking my 2000 cc 4.7 auto 4x4 to get a new exhaust. i am thinking 2 1/4" y-pipe into a 2 1/2" pipe into a new high flow cat then to a 40 series delta flow with dual exits on opposite sides of my trailer hitch. i got lucky because my truck has no pre-cats. should i stay with 2 1/2" out of the muffler or go to 2 1/4" out of the muffler to get some more back pressure? any comments on y pipe? any recommendation on which cat to use? all info is appreciated. once it's done i let you know how it sounds.

Message: If your re-doing your Y-Pipe, I'd forget about doing that and just go True Duals instead of a SI/DO muffler. Spend the extra $50-$60 for a second muffler and do it True Duals the 1st time around.
My suggestion.

Message: i agree with dakota 05 on this one just do true duals instead of the cat back crap i am trying to figure out how to run true duals on my truck the gas tank is in the way to do out the back but that is gay with my roll pan and stuff so i am thinking super 40s dumped or spintech 3'' exhaust exiting the right rear infront of the tire

Good luck with that one. Federal smog regs won't allow it. Any shop that makes that mod on a street vehicle is subject to a $10K fine.
I would probably go with a 2.25" or even 2.00" behind the muffler. Smaller pipes are easier to route, and a little cheaper. Since you're using two pipes instead of the stock 1, you'll be flowing a lot more gas than stock even with the smaller pipe. Your back pressure won't be coming from the tail pipes, so that's not really an issue.
