Message: those readings are at the crank. and the rt is a cool truck. you get the wheels and fender flares. but if money is tight... do a wanna be r/t get a 5.2 and get some wheels and fender flares and some small upgrades and youll keep right up with an r/t. now aobut the 4.7... there is about a 10 page thread on here that started in 2002 about which is better. you can go read and decide

Message: Look at torque figures and not the hp. Torque is what makes it quick off the line. The 5.9 also has more potential than the 5.2.

Message: The 5.2 usually got about 3-4 mpg better than a 5.9. The neat thing about the 1998-2003 R/T's were the "ready made" setup. The suspension was lowered 1", heavier shocks and a huge rear swaybar, 9.25 rearend with 3:92 and 17x9 wheels. By comparison, the 2006 R/T is stock ride height, a dinky rear swaybar, 17x8 wheels and a fake hood scoop. At least the '06 gets a HO 4.7. Both can be modded into something better, its just that DC used to give you more of a head start with the GenIII R/T.

Message: well i can say i really love me 2002 regular cab R/T. Like 01motorsport said the genIII come with a more head start than the 06' i think the R/T's are worth the extra money you pay for them. put a Hotchkis suspension add some bolt ons from Mopar and put a 100shot NX kit and you will be runnin 12.9@105mph like me. lol

Message: actually the R/T has 250 hp, just 5 over the durango's 245 hp 360 in the SLT. The R'T Durango got 5 more hp to a whopping 250. Whoopie! But the R/T has 345 ft lbs of torque. The 4.7 only has 295 ft lb., and the non R/T 360 put out 335 ft lb

Message: You can try to clone an R/T by adding wheel flares to a 5.2, but I guarantee you won't have half the fun. I've seen a couple wanna be's out there and they're not even close. Besides, there's not a better looking truck in its class on the road...period!
When my 5.9 gives up the ghost, I'm dropping in a 5.7 Hemi. The streets will no longer be safe.

Message: 90 hp? common. thats way to much. its like 20 percent. and pacman. what is the difference between a r/t and a normal 5.2? 10 hp fender flares and wheels. thats about it. unless its a newer one which is a rear swaybar and lowered 1 inch. it would be VERY simple to make normal dak as good and BETTER than an r/t

Message: The differnece between a R/T and a normal 5.2 is that a R/T is a 5.9. The 5.9 has more potential than the 5.2. Theres no placement like displacement. You do the same mods to both and the R/T will gain more from it.

Message: Im sorry but that stament does not have any truth to it. 5.9 has a longer stroke. Good for torque...not so good for quick revs. 5.2= shorter stroke. Its going to make less power down low but if properly built will make loads up top.
Another disadvantage of the R/T is the wieght. I can do the same mods to my truck as an R/T and be quicker with less cubes.
Old setup: 1/4 mile on old setup: 13.965 @ 100.10 MPH, Crappy 2.236 60' on street tires Mods: Paxton NOVI 2000 supercharger @ 10 #'s, M1 4Bbl, F&B 58mm TB, Gibson headers, JBA Y-pipe, and a Locker

Message: If you ask me it depends on what you want it for. If your just going to keep it stock or slightly modded go for 4.7. If you are going to mod the hell out of it get a 5.9. Im out of good hp mods on my 4.7 but the 5.9 just keeps getting better. It will also take more of a beating via Nitrous or Supercharger.
I like my 4.7 for a daily driver but I also have my 420 hp firebird in the drive for some real adrenaline. If I didnt have it I would probobably get a 5.9. But dont get me wrong my little 4.7 puts most of the r/ts around here in line. Including a supercharged one. But hey, all that torque is useless if you cant put it to the ground. It sure is fun to play with though.

Message: After hearing so many R/T owners complain about their truck's gas mileage, I went for a 4.7 5-speed instead. 19 to 20 mpg is easier to live with. Besides, a V-8 hooked to a manual tranny is constant fun, anyway. Still, I hope DC will make a "true" R/T again someday, with a "less GVW rating" warning sticker LOL.
