I have a 1997 Dakota 5.2L. Since I bought it 6 months ago the fuel gauge will randomlly drop to empty and fuel light comes on then it will go right back where it started after about 15 seconds, no hesitaion of engine just very annoying. Took it to a dodge dealer they said $1500 to replace a fuel sensor modual or modem. They say it is located on top of fuel tank. How hard is this to replace? I just replaced the heater core, do you think the fuel sensor would be any harder than that? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have to either drop the tank or lift the bed. Other than that, it's a pretty simple swap.

I have the same exact truck and mine only does that every once in a
while. Smetimes it only does it right after I buy gas. But it
eventually goes away. For me anyways.

I have a 97 dak 5.2 with the same problem. Somedays it does this once or twice, others, it seems like every 5 seconds. I don't think that it is much to worry about. I was told it was probably the fuel sender sensor glitching. As long as my engine doesn't bog or hiccup when it does this, I have no problem with it. I am not going to take all that time to fix it for something little like that. I will wait until I have a real problem and need to drop my tank! that's my 2cents
