Message: My Mil light came on yesterday morning... someone told me that i might have air in my gas tank (their brother's light came on and that was his problem) so I filled her up last night.. still on. I have heard that there is something i can do to get some kind of code to see what is wrong and go to some site (i have no clue of the site) and type the code in to see what the problem is. Anyone know what i'm talking about.. all the help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Message: you can read codes by doing the following:
turn the key on/off/on/off/on (on, not start) the codes will display in the odometer. they will look as such, P0143, etc. when all codes have displayed the odometer will read Pdone.
you can post back here or go to this website
http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/index.php
let us know what you find.

Message: I got P0442. going to try this later--
With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
it says to clear the codes. How do you do this?

Message: you can clear codes by disconnecting the + cable from the battery and turning the key to start for about 15-20 seconds, turn the key off, then reconnect the battery.
usually if it's just a loose gas cap and you tighten it up, the code will clear itself after a couple of start/ stop cycles if nothing else is wrong.
you could try replacing the cap if the light comes back on. at least, that what i would try first. but make sure your gas cap is on good.

Message: I have a 02 Quad cab 4.7l. That damn light has been on for about 70% of the time since I bought it new. I don't know about everyone else but the vacuum hoses they used on mine are crap. Every time I find a cracked hose, fix it and clear the code, it takes about a one or two months before its back. I have started replacing the hose with reinforced heater/vacuum hose from Advanced Auto Parts.
Later,
KC
PS I have a supertuner that I use to read and clear the codes, saves time and got a sweet boost in power especially for towing.
