I just bought a new 2006 4.7 H.O. Sport / Solar QC.

I want to install 3 inch exhaust with a Gibson or DNA muffler. I will follow with the StageII Jet Chip and a True Flow air filter.

Anyone have any advice on 4.7 performance?

Perhaps the biggest exhaust restriction for the 4.7 is the y-pipe. Might want to replace that. I went with a Gibson myself since my stock system was opening a muffler seem - nice tone, but I don't think anyone's dynoed much of a gain from the catback swap - those documenting a gain with exhaust mods have pretty much all included a change of this pipe along with their other mods. Similarly, many trying the jet chip have not dynoed significant (or any) gains. Some have seen gains with the regular 4.7 with superchip, or a custom flash, I think the auto tranny trucks have less ignition advance to start with and show the greatest gains. Haven't heard of anyone chipping or flashing an HO yet - let us know how you like whatever you try.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

We don't have too many people on here yet who have a H.O. 4.7 as they just started offering them in the latest gen IV Daks only.

From what I can see about the JET, it's an inline "trickery" thing that plugs into the sensors. You may notice it act different when you first plug it in, but the computer is going to learn and adjust it back to it's "ideal" anyway so from what I've heard they are a waste of money.

You can do a search and read up on the TPS mod. That only works if it's set crappy from the factory (as it's not normally adjustable or always perfect). If your truck doesn't hesitate in the slightest from the stop it's probably ok anyway.

The SuperChips gives a little "but dyno" power but mostly for people with an AUTO tranny. And on the AUTO it takes away the torque management on high throttle shifts. Right there makes it worth buying one.
But they probably don't have them ready for the 2006 model trycks yet.

Well, one thing at a time. I will start with the usual exhaust and air filter upgrades first. I have access to a dyno and will post numbers along with details of the upgrades.

Thanx............

It is all the same as an R/T minus the R/T appearance package. It has the 260hp H.O. with the 3.92 limited slip. It is a great performer. Needs a wider tire with possibly 18" or 20" wheels.

I have owned a 92, 95, 99 R/T, 04, now this 06.

It is a totally different Dakota. Very refined and rock solid compared to the past.
