Subject: ABS & Brake light IP: Logged
Message: While returning from a trip this weekend, the ABS & brake warning lights came on. (04 Dak, club cab, 2wd, V8, 5-speed auto w/factory tow package). At the time I was going down hill, doing 65, not touching the brakes, towing 3800 lbs with about 600 pounds in the bed. When I stopped, I checked fluid & codes. Fluid was full, no codes displayed. I reset the ECM (disconnect negative, hold ignition on 30 sec.) & the lights came back on. After disconnecting the trailer, lights went off.
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks again for your input....

Message: Electric brakes on the trailer ?
If so, running a brake controller ?
Quite often, these lights come on when the speed sensor in the rear end goes bad; but in your case sounds like it might be related to trailer wiring ?
Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Message: Charlie,
Do a search onthe site under ABS - seems to be a common problem lately. My experience: Lights on, no codes - You can actually notice the ABS is not working when you brake, quite scary when youre towning (me, 1800lb boat). I changed the speed sensor in the rear axel - some guys had luck with this, not me. Had all my brakes checked by my local guy - All are good, actually just had Brembo upgrade done a few months prior. I noticed my lights would come and go - usually when it was wet out or raining. Lived with it for quit some time but finally needed and inspection sticker - Brought it to the stealer ship for the sticker and asked them to also look at the brake issue - they fixed it - Nothing was wrong, they just reset/cleared the light codes(?) even though no codes showed up on the odometer - Hasnt had a problem since.
Good luck
