 Subject: door ajar and gate open light

I have both "door ajar" and "gate open" lights on at the same time in my 2001 Dakota, ext cab 4.7L.
Problem is, neither of these item is/are open.
Most likely I suspect a switch grounding. Which brings me to the second prob...
Where are the switches? Are they some sort of magnetic switch? There are no obvious plunger style switches that I see.
Also, its a Dakota; I've never seen the "gate open" light come on,even while driving w it open. I'm sure there is no switch there.
Any thoughts and/or advice as to the location and possible causes to my delema are much appreciated.

on my '00 the switches in the latch assy on the door itself.

The "gate open" is for the Durangos back hatch. We use the same dash as the Durangos. Read a while back that someone was going to hook up a sensor to his tailgate and put a bulb in that socket to see when he left it open. Good idea when you've got a tonneau cover on and can't see the tailgate.
