Subject: No-Slip, 2000 Dakota 4.7 IP: Logged
Message: Hi all,
My dad has a 2000 Dakota extended cab, 2WD, 4.7/auto. He just purchased a boat (~4300 lbs with trailer) and is looking for a little more traction on the launch ramp. The truck is used as a daily driver in addition to towing. Right now we're looking at the Powertrax No Slip as a way to get a little more grip, and avoid paying someone to install a LSD.
The first question is....what rear end does this thing have? My dad said it's the 9.25, but according to the Powertrax website the 9.25 isn't listed in the Dakota, just the Durango (yeah, I know...pretty much the same vehicle). With the 4.7 it's most likely the 9.25, but any possibility this is the 8.25 like is listed? The truck is in Oregon and I'm in Arizona, so I can't give any more info at this point.

Second, and specifically for those with experience with the No Slip, what is your impression of it? What are the on-road manners, especially on wet roads? They seldom get snow where my parents live but it rains...and rains, and rains......
I'm running a Detroit Locker (rear) and Lockright (front) in my TJ, and the short wheelbase combnied with the 5-speed it makes for, shall we say, interesting driving characteristics.;) If the No Slip is going to be comparable to a Detroit I don't think my dad will be happy with it.
I did a search and found several threads about the No Slip, but most are about a year old and deal mainly with 5-speeds. I'm hoping for some driving impressions of those with autos, and also some long-term driving impressions of those who have them. I would hate to see my dad spend the $$$ for the No Slip, only to find out he doesn't like the way it drives.
Thanks in advance for all the assistance.

Message: The easiest way to find out what size is to check the sticker in the glove box. I own a 2000 4.7l with a 5 speed and I have the 9.25.

Message: Your dad's truck has the 9.25" that's listed as the Durango part # in the Powertrax catalog. It will pretty much provide him with the same "interesting characterisics" that the Detroit has provided you.
4.7 motor+ wet road + throttle = power slide or a full 360. But if you're ready for it, it's kinda fun that way.

Message: Thanks for the info. After talking to him this morning we have confirmed it's a 9.25.
Anyone else with driving impressions of the No Slip?

Message: I just odered the Sure Grip LS for my dak, will
post likes/dislikes after install! It ended up
being cheaper than the Powertrxax, so I
figured, I would go mopar, as it should be a
perfect fit. traction in these things is horrible,
even with my auto!
