Subject: Losing Power?!?! IP: Logged
Message: I have a 97 dakota 5.2 with 200k on it. Now, about amonth ago it
had wonderful pick up and go. It was like i could just put my foot
down a little and it would just smoothly go into the other gear and
sound wonderful and everything and go like a dakota. Now all of a
suddeen for the past week, it seems its losing that initial get up
and go-ness. Plus the clutch fan doesn't help either in this
california heat. If anyone knows where this torque/ get up and go
went or knows anything about it, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Message: could be a multiple of things... give her a tune up and see what that gets you... for the fan... look into an electric one.

Message: Is your engine running hot in that heat? Have you inspected your intake for a bad belly pan gasket?

Message: Before spending money, do the free check it options. first one in my book is the cat. Get down under and hit it. See if it rattles. Even if it doesnt, Disconnect it in front of the cat and drive. Very loud but if your power is there you know it's the cat. This is the only way I know of to be sure the cat is good/bad.
So many problems .... So little time

Message: or- if youre astoundingly familliar with all aspects of your truck... you'll be able to tell a diminished volume of exhaust coming from your tailpipe(s). put your hand back there and check it out.
a completely clogged cat will simply not let you maintain a steady speed with steady pedal pressure, itll keep slowing down and youll be giving more gas.
