Subject: 91' 318 overheating IP: Logged
Message: Have a 91 V8 318 that seems fine when driven locally, put it on the highway and within mins it over heats. Have replaced fan, thermostat, water pump and the radiator was replaced last year due to seem splits. any guesses???

Message: Hmmm. Could be one of several things. If an automatic, could be your overdrive going Chernobyl. This saturates the cooling system with the excess heat from the tranny. That would explain why it does this on the highway. On another tack, running rich can cause an overheat....bad O2 or MAP sensor, clogged air filter. ALso a clogged catalytic converter can cause an overheat. A badly clogged converter will literally glow red hot. First thing I'd be looking at is that tranny.
