Message: Yeah, maybe the engine guy dropped a wrench or a spark plug down the exhaust.
Hey, I don't know if or how it is clogged. It was an IDEA.
I read somewhere online how to check exhaust pressure, but I don't recall.
Anyone else??
Do a search on here for "injector sync"
That will tell you how to check the dist. cap position.

Message: disconnect the front of the cat, start truck and see if it heats up and if the miss is still there after its run awhile,
i,m thinking plugged cat or muffler
something is not right if you can move the dist all over and not make a difference

Message: About the moving the distributor around, never mind that. I was wrong in my thinking. It does make a difference. I tried it and I haven't gotten it to run any better. Also replaced the cam sensor plate under dist. cap. No change. Next, I'll try that unbolting at the cat and running it. If that doesn't work, I'm going to test the fuel pressure.

Message: Has your 1992 ever had the fuel pump replaced?
In not, it is time.
Best to remove the bed.
They are about $250. I know, expensive.
Check the fuel hose and vent hose while the bed is off.
You may also need a new filler tube and the grommet/gasket on the tank that the filler tube goes into.
The dealer will have the gasket, but not the tube.
Napa should have the tube.

Message: Alright, last stuff I did was check coolant system pressure and fuel pressure. Coolant system started at 16psi--checked it about 10min later--It had dropped to 14-15psi. Upper hose was pretty solid in the test. Is it supposed to be solid while engine is running? I ask because I've always been able to squish it together with no difficulty while its running. Fuel pressure at idle was 33-34psi. Whenever that stumble occured, pressure would shoot up 2-3psi and then return to 33-34.

Message: I had another thought.
You're fuel line may be too hot.
You can buy expensive tubing and such, or use plumbing pipe insulation.
I also isolated and insulated the fuel rails.

Message: I read something like that on this website. Fuel vaporizing? I felt the fuel lines where the connect to the regulator and they felt luke warm.

Message: its got to be the fuel pump. i mean it loses pressure then it stumbles.... hmm wouldnt that mean it gets starved for gas for a sec and then the pump kicks back on and its fine.
just my 2cents

Message: It doesn't lose pressure, it gains it when it stumbles. Let me define the "stumble". It is a momentary loss of 100-800 rpm's--only lasts a fraction of a second, but happens several times a minute--frequency increases with ambient air temperature it seems. On hot days, its bad. On days where the ambient temp is 50 or 60, it won't even happen at all. In 90 degree weather it is practically undriveable. So...when I it running at idle the fuel pressure tester reads about 34psi. When it stumbles, the fuel pressure jumps up to about 36-37 for the duration of the stumble.(1/4 second or so) Fuel pressure was tested with the vaccum line attached to the regulator. I'm turning grey now....

Message: I've seen alot of posts for stumbling in cold temps but not for warm. Oh, just checked the fuel flow today. Cranked it with fuel supply line disco'd and got about a quart of fuel in 15 seconds of cranking. I've been told this is normal. Question...since this all started after my rebuild, could it be that computer needs to be reset? The engine does have bigger valves, bigger cam, head work ect. Doesn't it reset whenever you have the the battery disconnected for more than 30 secs? By the way---I have the OEM computer and the Mopar performance computer---truck has the same problem with either one.

Message: Good news!! Finally had a mechanic that knows how to read crank sensor wavelengths!! The problem was found to be a mangled flexplate. This was all my fault to! When I installed the engine, I used the flexplate windows for leverage to crank the motor so I could line up the bolts for it. Well....that bent up the windows. I had it looked at for no starting and the mechanic took a dremmel tool to the windows to grind down the high spots. He also replaced the crank sensor which was all jacked up. This time around, I looked at the windows and they are all grinded flat how they should be. The only problem is that when he grinded them down, it left the windows on the flexplate out of square------which was messing up the sensor reading and causing the engine to stumble. A new flexplate is on order! Too bad I have to learn things the hard way. Thanks for all the ideas and advice guys! I'm sure everything was covered completely.
