Subject: Gas tank hard to fill up IP: Logged
Message: My dad has an `03 QC 4.7 and he says that when he`s fillin` it up that the gas starts backing up through the filler tube and can`t get the tank completely full. I have an `00 QC 4.7 and I don`t have that issue. Anyway, thinking it was the tank, he had new one installed. No fix. Could maybe the vent tube be stopped up? It is still under warranty but you know how hard it is to get warranty work done. Any suggestions I can pass on to the "old man"?

Message: Well, if he can get the dealer to install a new gas tank for that problem, he can get them to do anything.
Sorry, no ideas other than your vent tube one.
Or maybe the charcoal canister, or maybe the purge valve.
Are you in a state like Calif with those funky gas filling nozzles? ??

Message: Nope. In Florida where voting is the main problem. Where is the purge valve located? I`ll check that. Thanks.

Message: Also, there is a kind of check valve at the bottom of the filler. Might be sticky.

Message: Isn't there some kind of "screen" in the filling tube to prevent large matter from getting in the tank and to prevent siphoning? I had a Floord that had one, and it ended up clogging up one day. Gas kept backwashing up the pipe and made the pump nozzle turn off. Just an idea. I don't know if our Daks have those screens or not.

So it sounds like a vent problem.

Message: You replaced the tank?
Your answer is where you said the magic word, warranty.

Message: can you guys tell me when you fill up your tanks. is when you first go out in the morning? do you leave the key on or truck running when you fill up? It sounds to me like the NVLD which is the Natural Vacuum Leak Detection pump is blocking the vent and your tank wont fill up while the vent is blocked. bascially its doing its job trying to find vapor leaks. try leaving the car running and see if it gets better. I'll look for a TSB for a flash update or new pump
