Message: Directions are 1 line; "Add to transmission"
why would you say "Better off not using it"
My transmission is shifting kind of hard and apparently this product is designed to eliminate hard shifting (from what Ive read), wear etc; and looking around on the net, this Lucas stuff got good reviews. are you against this additive or additives in general? Im just trying to avoid major repair work, or atleast prolong it in the mean time..
this is what I read;

Old User's advice is sound. Unless your transmission is on its last leg and is getting close to rebuild or replacement, transmission fluid additives are generally not recommended.
Also, which transmission you have makes a difference. Do you know which transmission you have? Does it use clutch packs or bands?

Message: Thanks, thats good to know. the only reason I started looking at an additive is because its starting to shift hard. My Dakota is a 2000 4.7L V8 Auto 2x4 with 3:55LSD rear end. Sorry, thats all i know. Is this hard shifting something I should be concerned about? the truck only has 65,000 miles on it.

Message: Get a trans fluid flush. Make sure they put in ATF+4. Better yet, have a dealership do it - it's all they use. ATF+4 is a 100% synthetic auto trans fluid. No additives ever in that stuff.

Message: do like kevin said,change the filter and fluid[chrysler recom.4+ fluid]
i run lucas in my car and truck,both engine and trans,car has 198,000mi 95 cirrus,not a tick in it,does,nt use any oil at 6000mi oil changes,
truck has 191,000mi 89 dak 4x4 with plow,uses a qt in 6000mi at oil change,just change motors not because it needed it,just wanted a little more power out of the v6 with a cam and .030 over bore and a few other things,pulled valve covers on old motor was real clean inside,no sludge build-up
can,t say lucas helped for sure,but i can say it did,nt hurt either

Message: My '01 4x4 Sport with 117,500 miles is sitting in the shop getting a new transmission and I used Lucas Transmission lube in it. About 90k miles of the 117k were all highway... my thoughts are that that stuff didn't do a darn thing except for maybe, possibly screw things up. I think because of the synthetic nature of the required fluid it may have done some damage. BTW, a remanufactured tranny is costing me $2,700.

Message: We used the Lucas Trans Fix on our 1994 V8 Dakota 3 1/2 years ago, and it just now is finally giving us problems again. $10 for 3 1/2 years and about 3000 miles, not bad at all.
I will note however, that it was all extremely local (<5 mile) driving, so the stuff doesn't work miracles. But it sure won't hurt. It's simply a viscosity modifier (i.e. thickens the tran fluid so the line pressure increases). It doesn't actually FIX the transmission, but it does put off having the rebuild the whole damn thing significantly.
It is true that if you have to add it, the transmission is probably already wrecked and will need to be replaced sooner or later.
