Subject: Help with a Sqeaky Clutch IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2000 Dakota with the 4.7 L and a 5 speed manual transmission with 125,000 miles on it. Lately the clutch pedal has started squeaking when I depress it. It’s fun because it’ll only do it when I’ve run it for awhile and it’s hot. The clutch itself works fine, never slips or anything but this squeaking is annoying. I was thinking that it was the bushing where the pedal connects to the hydraulic system’s master cylinder but I check it and its fine. The squeak seems to be coming from the bell housing but it doesn’t seem to be the throughout bearing… I mean it squeaks when I press the pedal not when the engine is spinning, in fact it’ll do it when the engine’s not running. Guess it could still be the throughout bearing though.
I’m thinking that it may be the release cylinder on the bell housing. I haven’t had this thing apart yet and I was wondering if I should expect to replace the clutch’s hydraulic system when I do the clutch, pressure plate, and throughout bearing?
Does anyone have any experience with these manual transmissions? Any suggestions on performance clutches? So far I’ve only found OEM clutch kits but I’d really like to give it something better so I don’t have to pull it apart again for a while.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
